Constitution Center

Commercial > Corporate

Constitution Center was formally the home to the U.S. Department of Transportation as the David Nassif Building.  JE Richards completed the electrical work for a complete renovation of the building which now houses the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The renovation turned one of the largest middle-aged federal office buildings into an environmentally-conscious, modern piece of real estate.

The finished product offers 1.4 million square feet of above-grade office space, 15 acres of underground parking - the largest private underground parking in the city - and installation of the largest "chilled beam" HVAC system in the country. Electrical installation also included 15KV distribution throughout the building, installation of 10 substations- 6 residing in the penthouse- the heaviest weighing in at 28,000 pounds, two 1000KW emergency generators on the roof that were disassembled for lifting before installation, over 700 panel boards, 6000’ of bus duct, over 500,000' of conduit, 480,000' of feeder wire and fire alarm.

This LEED Silver Project  was recognized by The Washington Building Congress for outstanding craftsmanship with an award for Power Generation, Distribution and Switchgear.
