This project was the first Sprint Vision (LTE Upgrade) site completed by JBL in the New Jersey market on a power transmission tower. The project consisted of decommissioning the existing Iden equipment from the tower and rebuilding the tower end of the site from scratch. Rather than using coaxial cables, Sprint chose to install Hybriflex cable which is roughly 1-1/4 diameter cable that contains both fiber and DC power. Remote radio heads are mounted atop the tower along with newly installed antennas. Fiber is a neater application to run, uses less physical space and structural capacity than coaxial cable. Our understanding is that this is the future in wireless site builds.
