McPhee was selected by Fuel Cell Energy to perform the complete, turn-key electrical work associated with installation of a 1.2MW DFC1500™fuel cell at the Pepperidge Farm site in Bloomfield, CT. At the time of completion, the Pepperidge Farm facility was the largest fuel cell plant in the United States.
The overall installation included a 277V/480V, 2000A switchgear back-feeding the utility to guarantee flawless power in a wide variety of operating conditions.
The fuel cell will supply approximately 57% of the total electrical needs of the 260,000 square foot production facility. This base load power system will ensure that the lines keep running, three shifts a day, six days a week.
The work required McPhee to furnish labor and material to run 1” aluminum inside for BMS wiring. McPhee also repaired and replaced broken 1” conduits. McPhee has years of substantial experience with this technology having regularly performed work at Fuel Cell Energy’s Torrington, CT manufacturing facility on assemblies, wiring and testing prior to breakdown, packaging and shipment to installation sites worldwide.
